Do you keep up with the latest events? You should. Every day brings earthquakes, elections and scientific discoveries. Here are some great sites to help you stay up to date.

TEST YOUR NEWS IQ (New York Times)

Start off with a visit to the "OLD GRAY LADY." That's what they call the New York Times, which has earned a great reputation for delivering "all the news that's fit to print." Their news site for kids contains up to the minute, in depth summaries of important stories, plus crossword puzzles and a news IQ quiz.

VISIT TIME FOR KIDS (www.timeforkids.com)

A visit to Time for Kids (or TFK) is a great first stop on the web. The stories are up to date, and there are always polls and games to play. You'll also find many links to other Time related magazines and services. By the way, 83% of all kids voted that it should be rebuilt.

WHAT'S THE NEWS FROM ENGLAND? (BBC)

You are just one click away from the top kids' news in Europe, brought to you by the British Broadcasting Corporation (or BBC). Learn what songs are hot, and see what others say about the USA from across the Atlantic.

WANT TO GROW UP TO BE BRIAN WILLIAMS? (The Newseum). A good first step is to visit Newseum.org, the web site for a museum that is all about news. You'll find a collection of some of the best winning pictures that get into the news, editorial cartoons, and a behind the scenes look at how newspapers work.

Why is FREEDOM OF SPEECH IMPORTANT? (PBS)

This site lets you read stories written by children who live in countries where freedom of speech is not permitted. Find out about important topics like fighting racism. Meet kids like Andrej and Jessica and read about their lives in Slovakia.
