ONLINE SHOPPING TIPS FOR PARENTS (COPYRIGHT 2004, CTR)

In Search of the "Hot" Product?
Yes, the early bird gets the worm, especially when it comes to those "hot" products. It never fails... one or two products emerge (like a tsunami) leaving many frantic. Shopping online can be a lifesaver. A number of these hot products are available for advance ordering, for example... you get an e-mail message when the toy has shipped, and increase your chances of success. Reading CTR is a great way to identify the "hot" products before they arrive at retail.

Wish Lists. Take advantage of handy online shopping tools. At some online toy stores, you'll find wish list templates, letting your extended family in on what your children want. Make sure to involve your children in the creation of these lists.

Consumer Protection 101. Stay with familiar, trusted store names instead of the unknowns. Look for shopping guarantees, and check out credit card security and privacy information before you hit the buy button.

Plan and Save $$. Early shopping incentives really do save you money, especially around the holidays. Use discounts, free shipping, and other incentives you'll find in the first half of November, for example.

Do Your Homework. Read both expert and customer reviews. These can help you better match the product with a particular child.

Good luck!
